It’s 88 years since a U.S. President set foot in Cuba. That man was Calvin Coolidge.

CCTV America’s Sean Callebs reports.

The man called Calvin Coolidge was the last, and only sitting American President to visit Cuba.

It was 1928 after years and years of U.S. military involvement in a host of Latin American nations.

U.S. scholars say Coolidge came to Havana with a specific mission.

Welcomed by Cuban President Gerardo Machado, Coolidge’s greeting was enthusiastic, if not well choreographed by Machado who kept any protesters far away.

Until now it was little more than a footnote in history, another chapter in the long and complicated U.S.-Cuban relationship.
